Catawba County is actively seeking families to host foreign exchange students for the remainder of the current school year as well as the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. Families can host for 6 months, 10 months, or one year. High school students come from all parts of the globe, and they are carefully screened to ensure that they are well-behaved, good students, and they speak fluent English. All you need is an extra bed in your home and the desire to change the way the world views America while learning new customs and cultures from around the world. Hosts can be families with or without children or even single adults.

There is a short application process to ensure the safety and well-being of the student. Once approved, hosts will be provided the opportunity to choose a student who fits with their family dynamics. Students can be male or female, outgoing or shy, gamers, intellectuals, jokesters, or hikers. There is a student to fit every host’s lifestyle.

Your student will arrive in January or August, depending upon your choice, and stay through the school year. Host families are expected to provide their student with a bed of his/her own and 3 meals a day. The student will have his or her own spending money sent monthly from home to cover hygiene needs, school and entertainment costs, and any special food beyond the three meals a day provided by his or her host.

International Student Exchange, ISE, provides students and host families with support 24 hours a day 7 days a week. ISE is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing rich cultural experiences to bring the people of our world closer together. We are an accredited J1 Visa program with the highest standards as set forth by the US Department of State as well as the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel.

Please open your heart and home to give these students an authentic view of American Life and to learn about life in other parts of the world. Contact area representative Jennifer Celt at JenniferCelt4@Gmail.com for further information, or check out our ISE website at iseusa.org to learn all about the cultural exchange experience.
