The Annual Tradition for the City of Hickory Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Combination event continues on November 20
After such a great response from the community last year, the City of Hickory will be hosting the second annual official holiday season kick-off event, combining the Hickory Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting, which is now sponsored by Lowes Foods.
The Lowes Foods Hickory Christmas Parade will be held on Friday, November 20 at 6 p.m. It will begin at the intersection of North Center Street and Main Avenue. All parade entries will be announced by Christmas Parade Hosts City Manager Mick Berry and Deputy City Attorney Arnita Dula.
The Hickory Crawdads have been selected as the grand marshals of the parade. "The Hickory Crawdads recently won the South Atlantic League Championship and they are worthy of the recognition that comes with that title. We felt that being the parade's grand marshals was a fitting salute to their accomplishment," said Lauren Townson, Parks and Recreation Department's Senior Recreation Programmer and parade coordinator.
After the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus will light the Christmas tree in Downtown Hickory. Music and visits with Mr. and Mrs. Claus will continue until 8:30 p.m. under the Sails on the Square.
